Men's Golf Earns GCAA Presidents Special Recognition

NORMAN, Okla. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team has been named a recipient of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Presidents Special Recognition for posting a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the 2020-21 school year marking back-to-back seasons on the list, the GCAA announced Friday.

The Lobos posted an outstanding 3.74 team GPA in the Spring 2021 semester, marking the third-best, single-semester GPA in UNM men’s golf program history.

UNM earns the impressive academic honor after claiming the 2021 Mountain West Championship. In addition, freshman Bastien Amat was named 2021 Mountain West Freshman of the Year. As a squad, the Lobos finished the season ranked No. 29 in the nation with four players ranked in the top 250 in the nation.

UNM was one of just 41 programs in NCAA Division I to earn the Presidents Special Recognition. Richmond led the group with a 3.85 GPA.

The Lobos were one of just two Mountain West programs to make the list of 3.5 GPA or higher and were joined by Wyoming.
