AWENDAW, S.C. –– The No. 19 New Mexico men’s golf team climbed up the leaderboard on Monday at the Hootie at Bulls Bay during the second round at Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Lobos shot 14-under during the second round to move up from second place to the 36-hole lead at 16-under.

The Lobos will take a two-shot lead into the final round, as LSU is in second at 14-under. Purdue is in third at 6-under, West Virginia is in fourth at 1-under, while host South Carolina and East Tennessee State are tied for fifth at even par.

Matthew Watkins holds the tournament’s individual lead at 7-under after posting a 6-under 66 on Monday. He will take a one-shot lead into the final round. Albert Boneta is T-3rd at 5-under after his 4-under 68 in the second round. Carson Herron and Connor Adams are both T-10th on the individual leaderboard following Adams’ 69 and Herron’s 71 on Monday. Bastien Amat rounded out the lineup with an even par round of 72 in the second round.

“Today we played extremely consistent golf all day,” said head coach Jake Harrington. “To only have eight bogeys from the entire team when the wind was blowing 10-15 mph allowed us to build momentum and count four rounds under par. Tomorrow our goal is to go out there and play with confidence and win the day again.”

The Hootie at Bulls Bay will conclude Tuesday at the Bulls Bay Golf Club, just north of Charleston.
