
Mac Austin joined the Lobo family in January of 2025, and he serves as a defensive graduate assistant. He came to UNM after a stint at Harvard University.
With the Crimson, Austin served as a defensive quality control coach where he was a part of Harvard’s 2024 Ivy League Championship. He coaches a pair of all-Ivy League players in first team selection defensive end Jacob Psyk and second teamer defensive tackle Tyler Huenemann.
Austin got his collegiate coaching career started at his alma mater of John Carroll University. In 2023 he coached the tight ends mentoring Lucas D’Orazio to First Team All-OAC honors and First Team All-Region honors, and that followed coaching Lucas D’Orazio to First Team All-Region and First Team All-OAC honors in 2022.
Austin played for the Blue Streaks from 2017-21 as a linebacker. He holds a BA in Communications and a Masters in Sports Leadership in 2022 both from John Carroll University. Austin is a native of Aurora, Ohio.
