
Adam Behrends joined the Lobo Football family in February 2024 as an Offensive Analyst. He works with the quarterback and receiver groups.
Behrends joins the Lobos staff after serving as the head coach of Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut from 2019-24. Behrends led the program to multiple State playoff appearances, culminating in a 2023 LL State Championship title and a No. 1 ranking in 2023. The state title was the first in 18 years (since 2005) and the first FCIAC Championship since 2012.
Behrends was voted 2023 New Haven Register Coach of the Year, and the team won the 2023 Walter Camp Joseph S. Kelly Team of the Year Award, which was the first time in school history it was so honored.
Behrends was also successful in developing his players, with three quarterbacks and five receivers setting school records four years in a row, and his 2023 Quarterback earning MaxPreps and New Haven Register CT Player of the Year while setting school records for passing yards, career yards per game, and touchdowns in a season. He also had five student-athletes accepted and enrolled at West Point, two Ivy League recruits, and had 19 Division I recruits over his time.
Prior to joining Staples, Behrends coached at IMG Academy for nine years, where he helped launch the IMG Football program, and was an assistant coach for the IMG National Varsity team that went a combined 53-4 from 2013-18. The program finished in the top five of the MaxPreps and USA TODAY national rankings each of his last four years and developed more than 140 student-athletes who went on to Division I football programs.
In addition to coaching a variety of positions on the IMG National team staff, Behrends was recognized as one of the top quarterback coaches in the nation, leading IMG Academy Pre-Combine/Draft Training program, and guiding and developing dozens of NCAA prospects, NCAA starters and NFL players.
Among them were former Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson, Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson and NFL veterans Kirk Cousins, Josh Dobbs, Ryan Tannehill and Teddy Bridgewater. In addition to working with quarterbacks, he also he worked with several position groups during NFL Combine Training, including wide receivers, running backs, linebackers, and defensive backs.
Behrends played as a defensive back at Minnesota State-Mankato after transferring from Ellsworth Community College where he was an all-region Defensive Back in 2006.
He is originally from Bettendorf, Iowa, and graduated from Bettendorf High School earning all-conference defensive back honors in 2003.
