Evan Butts joined the Lobo Football program in December of 2023, and he serves as the Director of Scouting for UNM. He comes to New Mexico after a four-year stint at Virginia in a variety of roles.
This will be Butts’ third year working with Bronco Mendenhall.
With New Mexico, Butts will oversee all facets of recruiting for Lobo Football, including official visits, travel, recruiting weekends and roster management. Butts will oversee UNM’s scholarship allocation and walk- on program, as well as walk-on tryouts.
With Virginia, Butts got his start with his alma mater working as a regional scout in 2020 before moving into the role of offensive recruiting coordinator, where he worked with the director of scouting on offensive positional needs, recruiting, roster management and travel, a position he held for three years.
Butts got his start in college athletics administration in 2019 as a facilities and events intern with Villanova. He has also served an internship with the Chicago Bears in player personnel.
Butts earned two degree at the University of Virginia. He earned a B.A. in psychology in 2018 and a master’s in higher education and sports administration in 2019.
