New Mexico: Strong linebacker who overcame great hardship in 2014 … played as a true freshman in 2013 … a 2013 and 2014 All-Academic Mountain West selection.

2015 (Junior Season): Started all 13 games as UNM’s rush linebacker … recorded 40 tackles on the season, 20 solos, along with two quarterback hurries, a pass break up, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks … had a season-high six tackles against Boise State, including a 3-yard sack … had five tackles in the opener against Mississippi Valley State, including 2.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks totaling 17 yards … very consistent in conference play, recording four tackles in four out of five games, against Hawai’i, San Jose State, Utah State and Colorado State … had two tackles and a hurry against New Mexico State. 

2014 (Sophomore Season): Played in 11 games for the Lobos, recording eight starts at outside linebacker … finished the season with 20 total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss … missed the second game of the season against Arizona State after learning that his father, Donnie White, Sr., was murdered in a random drive-by shooting in St. Louis on September 4 … recorded his only sack of the year against UTSA, as well as two tackles for loss (-13 yards) and a forced fumble … ended the season with a strong performance against Wyoming, setting a career-high with four tackles. 

2013 (Freshman Season): Played in 10 games as a backup outside linebacker … finished with 16 tackles, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry … had a career-high two solo tackles twice — against Utah State and at Fresno State … also had a career-high three tackles against San Diego State, Air Force and Boise State.

High School: A first-team Metro Catholic All-Conference and second-team Class 6 All-State selection in 2012 for the Spartans and coach Pat Mahoney … finished the season with 62 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries and a Metro Catholic-leading 14 sacks … also earned St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro third-team honors and was a member of the Post-Dispatch Super 30 recruits (checking in at No. 13) … rated the No. 18 prospect in the state of Missouri by 247sports.com … De Smet finished with a 9-4 record and won three games in the Missouri Class 6 playoffs, advancing to the semifinals … as a junior in 2011, he had 25 tackles, six sacks and three fumble recoveries … earned second-team Metro Catholic All-Conference honors … De Smet went 9-3 in 2011 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 6 state championship playoff.
