High School: Lettered at Rockford East for coach Gary Griffin … recorded 85 tackles as a senior with 4.0 tackles for a loss and five interceptions, adding three passes defended, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery … overall he recorded eight interceptions over his varsity career, and he added four punt return touchdowns … also played on offense, where he scored 28 offensive touchdowns in three seasons, including 12 receiving as a junior when as caught 37 passes for 725 yards … named All-State and All-Conference as a junior and senior … chose the Lobos over Western Michigan, Central Michigan and Buffalo.
