Bronco Mendenhall Weekly Press Conference

by Frank Mercogliano

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Head coach Bronco Mendenhall met with the media on Monday at noon to talk shop regarding UNM’s 52-37 win over Air Force and the upcoming game at Utah State.  That game starts at 2:05 pm and can be heard on the Lobo Radio Network as well as watched on truTV and Max.

The Lobos are looking to end a seven-game losing skid to the Aggies.  The last win for UNM in the series was in 2016 when the Lobos defeated Utah State 24-21 with a 15-point comeback capped off with a Jason Sanders 40-yard field goal in the final minute.  That field goal followed a play were, tied at 21-21, Utah State elected to go for it on fourth-and-1 from the 1-yard line, and Dakota Cox got a big stop for no gain.  UNM then drove for the go-ahead kick before Utah State mounted a final drive that saw Utah State have a touchdown called back on an offensive pass interference penalty, and then the clock ran out after a short quarterback scramble before the Aggies could get off a field goal.

Last year was a wild 44-41 double overtime win for the Aggies in which Levi Williams started as the third-string quarterback due to injury and rushed and threw for over 100 yards each, scrambling for the winning touchdown in overtime after a botched snap.
