Wysong, Medford Named to Watch Lists

LOUISVILLE, Ky. & ATLANTA, Ga. — Luke Wysong and Caleb Medford were each named to national watch lists on Thursday, as Wysong was named to the 15th Annual Paul Hornung Award Watch List and Caleb Medford was officially named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.  The Hornung Award honors the best athlete who plays multiple positions, while the Wuerffel Trophy honors community service.

In 2021, Teton Saltes was named the winner of the Wuerffel Trophy, signifying the first national award winner in Lobo Football history.

For Wysong, tthis marks the third consecutive season that he has been named to the initial Hornung Award watch list, having made it as a sophomore in 2022 and as a junior in 2023, a season he would only play in four games and then redshirt.  The redshirt junior from Rio Rancho plays both receiver, punt returner and kickoff returner for UNM.  In his first two full seasons, he led UNM in receptions and yards, and he was the leading punt returner both seasons and despite just four games last year, he led UNM in punt returns and was second in kickoff returns.

Medford has been instrumental in UNM’s community outreach, visiting UNM Children’s Hospital and taking an active role in UNM’s “Thursday’s Heroes” Initiative which allows a sick child the opportunity to attend practice, meet the team and bond with the players.  Medford also has been a regular in visiting local elementary schools to read to children.

The Lobos are just 23 days away from the season opener on Saturday, August 24 vs. Montana State, which will kick at 2 p.m.  Season tickets are on sale here, and fans can purchase single-game tickets for all five of UNM’s home games starting on August 12.
