Mendenhall Takes Center Stage at MW Media Day
LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Judging by the amount of questions to the Lobo student-athlete contingent of Luke Wysong and Gabe Lopez that centered on head coach Bronco Mendenhall, it was readily apparent that Mendenhall was going to be busy on Thursday, and that he was going to be very much in demand.
Both things were very much true. Mendenhall, who at one time had 18 reporters and TV cameras centered on him in the print and TV media room (easily the most for any of the 12 coaches at any one time) held center stage in Las Vegas on the final day of Mountain West Media Days in Las Vegas.
Mendenhall ran the gamut of promotional rooms for the various television entities and partners, had a photo shoot and even sang on camera (don’t ask, but the Mountain West social team will certainly use the footage). He also hit the live MW Media Day show with Jesse Kurtz and Bridget Howard live from the Circa Sports Book, the largest in the world. And how much of a draw was Mendenhall? Hotel workers were waiting for him to finish to get pictures, and a high school football coach who happened to be in the area waited specifically to get advice from Mendenhall.
True to form, that question didn’t involve formation or scheme, but how to set the standard for a program to achieve maximum results.
