May, Nowak Earn Department Promotions
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Vice President/Director of Athletics Eddie Nuñez has announced two promotions within the UNM equipment room. Jacque May has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Equipment Operations from Director of Equipment Operations, and Ashley Nowak has been promoted to Director of Equipment Operations from Associate Director of Equipment Operations.
May, who is entering her 23rd year at UNM and is third in longevity within the department, oversees all UNM’s equipment operations after previously serving as the equipment director for football. May handled the logistics of UNM’s 43-day stop in Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2020 football season, and she oversaw a complete overhaul of the UNM equipment room to modernize UNM’s space. May has also worked closely with the administration on UNM’s branding standards for all uniforms and equipment.
Nowak, who was one of five female football equipment directors last season, has streamlined efficiency within the football program, and handles all manners of equipment needs with the football program. Besides the obvious challenges of a program with three helmets, four sets of jerseys and three sets of pants, Nowak handles all the behind-the-scenes parts of UNM’s football gear, including building specialized blocking sleds and tackling equipment. She also has overseen a student-staff that has grown exponentially over her three seasons at UNM to help UNM’s football equipment staff become one of the top staffs in the nation.
Both May and Nowak also work closely with Nike to ensure quality control and to keep UNM up-to-date with the latest advancements in the equipment field.
