TURIN, Italy – Competing in the European Cross Country Championships on Sunday at Piemonte-La Mandria, New Mexico runners Jonathan Carmin and Emma Heckel produced positive showings to represent the Lobos.

Both Lobos competed in the U23 division of the race, and both finished in the upper-half of runners.

Heckel, who recently earned her second All-American honor by finishing 38th at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships, ran her way to a 25th-place finish among a field of 57 finishers on Sunday. The German international covered the 6k course in 21:31 minutes, staying in the upper-portion of the pack throughout the entire race.

Carmin placed 34th among a field of 78 runners in the 8k race, running a time of 25:01 minutes. The Lobo freshman and Israeli international remained consistent throughout the race, sticking with those close to him and never wavering significantly on his way to an upper-half finish.

Carmin and Heckel most recently competed for UNM at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston on Dec. 3, where Heckel opened the indoor track and field season with a time of 16:01.90 minutes in the 5,000-meters and Carmin ran a 5,000-meters time of 13:52.94 minutes.
