Rio Grande Rivalry Game Time Set

by Frank Mercogliano

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The 112th meeting of the Rio Grande Rivalry between New Mexico and New Mexico State will officially kick off at 6 pm in Las Cruces on October 15.  The Aggies announced that game time earlier today.  No television information for the game has been announced as of yet.

The Lobos own more wins (73) over New Mexico State than over any other program that they have played.  The Lobos have won three straight in the series and while they have owned the series with a 73-35-3 overall mark, the Lobos have extended that margin in more recent times.  UNM has won 15 of the last 21 meetings dating back to September 16, 2000.

The October 15 meeting is a rather late meeting for the series, as it’s the latest meeting since playing on the final day of the 2001 season, a 53-0 shellacking for UNM.  That game was originally scheduled for September 15 of that year but was postponed due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  As far as games that were scheduled later than October 15, one has to go all the way back to October 22, 1994, a 56-31 Lobo win in Las Cruces.

Season tickets are on sale for the 2022 at University Stadium, a slate that features great home matches with rivals Boise State, UTEP and Wyoming as well as Fresno State and San Diego State and the September 3 opener with Maine.  Fans can get tickets at www.golobos.com/2022FBSeasonTix.
