ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico baseball program is saddened by the loss of former player Micah Pietila-Wiggs who passed away on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at the age of 21.

“Micah made the world a better place,” assistant coach Jon Coyne said. “He was the first person to pick his teammates up if they were down and push them to be better every day. He always had a smile on his face, upbeat energy, and a huge heart. He will be missed very much.”

The Chula Vista, Calif., native graduated from Eastlake High School in 2018, where he was a three-time district champion and one time state champion. During his high school career, he earned First Team All-League three times, First Team All-CIF two times, League MVP once and League Batting Champion once.
