Lobos Edged Out in 11th Inning by UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The University of New Mexico’s baseball team forced 11 innings in Las Vegas, Nev., but was edged out by UNLV (5-1, 5-1), dropping the game 1-0. Junior Tristin Lively led the Lobos (4-6, 3-3) on the mound, pitching 8.0 innings, tallying a career-high 11 strikeouts, and allowing only four hits in the game.

The junior has now pitched a total of 20.0 innings, allowing only 11 hits, and has lowered his ERA to 0.90 this season. Sophomore Terrell Hudson entered the game in the ninth inning, striking out two in 2.0 innings.

Sophomores Cole Posey and Mack Chambers both tallied two hits, and both Posey and freshman Chase Weissenborn finished the game with a double each.

The Lobo defense kept the Rebels scoreless through 10 innings, assisting Lively to a total of six 1-2-3 innings. Senior Kyle Landers finished the game with 12 putouts at first base, and senior Jarrett Gonzales tallied a total of 11.

Landers and Gonzales came in clutch in the eighth inning as the Lobos found themselves in a bases-loaded situation. Lively grounded a ball at the mound and launched the ball to Gonzales, earning an out at the plate. Gonzales then sent the ball to Landers at first in time for the third out of the inning.

The Lobos will now head to Fresno, Calif., to face Fresno State March 13-14. The three-game series will open with a doubleheader on Saturday and conclude with a single game on Sunday. Live stats and a YouTube stream will be available for fans to keep up with the games.
