Lobos Finish Fifth at Rebel Beach Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished fifth in a field of 13 teams on Tuesday at the Rebel Beach Invitational hosted by UNLV and Long Beach State. For the second straight competition this season, sophomore Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana led the Lobos as she tied for fifth place overall.

As a team, the Lobos shot a 34-over, 896, finishing just nine strokes out of first place. Tulsa claimed the win with a final score of 887 (+23) followed by Fresno State (889, +25) and Gonzaga (893, +29).

Fresno State and UNM were the top two finishers of the five Mountain West squads in the tournament.

Through all three rounds, the Lobos finished first in par-3 scoring with an average of 3.08 strokes per round (+5) and finished fifth overall in birdies with 34.

Lertsadwattana placed fifth with her score of 219 (+3), posting a 71 in round one and a Lobo-low 70 in round two before closing with a round-three score of 78. She also finished with 12 birdies which tied for third among all competitors.

After completing round one as the Lobo with the highest score (77), redshirt-senior Reva Morris executed a massive comeback carding a 72 and a 71 in rounds two and three, respectively to finish tied for seventh overall with a score of 220 (+4) in her first tournament back in action in over a year.

Morris finished just one stroke behind Lertsadwattana, the pair finished as the top two Lobos in the field. She registered a team-most four birdies in round three while tying for seventh overall in par-4 scoring.

Sophomore Lauren Lehigh finished tied for 23rd with a final score of 227 (+11) followed by freshman Myah McDonald who competed as an individual and finished tied for 37th (230, +14).

Seniors Caroline Jansson and Serena Chon rounded out the Lobo lineup tied for 51st and 54th overall.

New Mexico has finished in the top six in each of the last two tournaments with individuals finishing in the top five in both. The Lobos are set to return to action on March 1-3 at the Bruin Wave Invitational hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine in Somis, Calif.
