Lobo Athletics Preparing for 2020 Football Season
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — As the countdown continues for the 2020 Lobo Football season and the August 29 season opener against Idaho State at Dreamstyle Stadium, protocols are being developed to create the safest experience possible for our student-athletes, fans and employees in 2020.
Previously, Lobo Athletics announced a change to contactless ticketing which has allowed the flexibility to extend the season ticket renewal deadline to July 1. That extension will allow season ticket holders more time to make the correct decision for themselves.
Below are some frequently asked questions regarding the 2020 football season. As more information becomes available, UNM Athletics will provide updates as kickoff gets closer.
If the football season is not played, will refunds be offered?
- Yes. In the event that the 2020 Football season cannot be played as scheduled, there will be various ticket credit, refund, and donation options offered.
Will social distancing be required?
- We don’t know yet. In case it is required, we are developing a full plan of action for limited capacity and the required social distancing would be put into place. Our facility staff is working with healthcare experts and University officials to determine the details of that plan, and they will be released to public (if necessary) when the details are finalized. One thing we do know is that in this scenario, to effectively distance our fans, season ticket holders will likely need to select new seats for the 2020 season that fit into the social distancing guidelines created. This plan does have the ability to evolve as circumstances do.
If I don’t renew, will I still have first-right to my reserved seats for the 2021 football season?
- Yes. We want fans to make the decision they feel most comfortable with, so, our plan is to be as accommodating as possible. If a season ticket holder decides not to renew their tickets for the 2020 season, they will retain the rights to their same seats and their “place in line” for the 2021 season. The only requirement will be that they continue to support the Lobo Club by being a member at some capacity.
Will there be changes to tailgating or parking?
- Yes. These plans are still being developed but will rely heavily on personal responsibility. It is our hope that the plans will allow for a safe, spirited and exciting pre-game atmosphere for Lobo Football.
