Women’s soccer adds international experience with signing of Margherita Giubilato

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team has bolstered its roster and added a wealth of international playing experience with the signing of Italian forward Margherita Giubilato as a transfer for the 2020 season.

A native of Martellago, Italy, Giubilato comes to UNM after spending her freshman season at the University of Kansas. While at Kansas, Giubilato saw action in four games and notched a season-high 18 minutes against Kennesaw State.

“Margherita comes to us with an extensive background including time with the Italian National Team,” remarked head coach Heather Dyche. “She is technically outstanding and very good with the ball. We are thrilled to welcome her to our family and excited to see her compete.”

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Giubilato was a youth star in her home country of Italy where she was a member of the Italian Youth National Team (IYNT). In her time with the IYNT, Giubilato was called up to play for the U16, U17 and U19 levels, respectively. Giubilato also spent two years as a member of A.S.D. Verona Calcio, which participates in Italy’s highest female league, Women’s Serie A.

Giubilato is the third transfer to enter the fold for the 2020 season joining Eliza Mariner and Molly Meyers, who both transferred prior to the spring semester. Mariner, a native of Albuquerque, is coming home after spending her freshman season at Cornell where she played in 11 games and made seven starts. Meyers is coming to the Lobos from Washington State University where she played in 24 games and helped guide the Cougars to the 2019 Women’s Soccer College Cup.
