Symone Denham named to WBCA’s Thirty Under 30

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced on Wednesday their annual list of coaches for their WBCA Thirty Under 30 award, which is presented by Marriott Bonvoy and Morgan Stanley Global Sports & Entertainment. Listed among those 30 coaches for the 2019-20 season was University of New Mexico assistant coach Symone Denham.

In its fifth year of existence, the WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women’s basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of the game. As described by the WBCA, each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.

“I am very proud of Symone. She is definitely a rising star in the coaching profession,” remarks UNM head women’s basketball coach Mike Bradbury. “This is a well-deserved honor and I am excited to see her continued work with our program.”

Denham recently completed her second season as an assistant coach and third overall with the Lobos, all with Coach Bradbury, who served as her head coach during her collegiate playing days at Wright State (2013-2016). As an assistant, Denham has helped in all facets of coaching; from practice planning, recruiting and in-game coaching as well. This past season, Denham also took on the de facto role of director of basketball operations. In that dual role, Denham ensured that all the behind-the-scenes need of the program were met.

“The WBCA is pleased to recognize up-and-coming talent in our coaching family. The 30 coaches who have been named to receive the Thirty Under 30 Award are deserving of this recognition. The WBCA congratulates them for distinguishing themselves early in their careers,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. “These coaches have demonstrated eagerness, effectiveness, loyalty, love of the game, and a commitment to the student-athlete. We celebrate their effort on the basketball court as teachers and equally applaud the extensive role they play in impacting the lives of their student-athletes.”
