Director of Recruiting

Josh Sternquist begins his fourth season as director of football recruiting after joining the Lobo football program in the spring of 2012. Sternquist directs all aspects of New Mexico’s recruiting program and also works in conjunction with the Director of Football Operations on New Player Orientation, housing, football camps, and advance travel.

“As the director of recruiting, his responsibilities include the organization of all recruiting efforts. Sternquist also works with compliance regarding initial eligibility and admissions with incoming recruits.”

Sternquist has more than eleven years of recruiting and operational experience at the Football Bowl Subdivision level. He came to New Mexico from the University of Minnesota, in which he worked from 2008-2012.  Prior to his years at Minnesota, Sternquist was a football and recruiting operations assistant at the University of Wisconsin from 2004-08. In 2006, Sternquist assisted with the Badger recruiting class that would help lead the Badgers back to the Rose Bowl during the 2010 season — the school’s first trip there since the 1999 season.  While at Wisconsin, Sternquist worked for College Football Hall of Fame Coach, Barry Alvarez.

Sternquist graduated from Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2004 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. He played defensive back for three years at Wisconsin-Whitewater, earning Academic All-WIAC honors and four Defensive Player of the Week awards. He finished his career tied for fourth place on the school’s all-time interceptions list.

Sternquist started his collegiate career at Valparaiso University, playing from 1999-2000.

The Sternquists, Kalen and Josh, have three children: a daughter, Maggie, and twin sons, Jackson and Lucas.
