De’Vante Cross joined the Lobo Football program in January of 2024, and he serves as a defensive graduate assistant working with the safeties. He comes to New Mexico after a professional career that saw him spend time with the Green Bay Packers.
This will be Cross’ first year working with Bronco Mendenhall, who was his coach for all five of his seasons at Virginia.
With New Mexico, Cross works mostly with the safeties under Nick Howell.
Cross played five years at Virginia, moving from quarterback to receiver to safety, finding a home on defense and finishing his career earning a spot on the 2021 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.
In his three years at safety, Cross played in 32 games with 114 tackles, 6.0 TFLs,
2.0 sacks, six interceptions and 15 pass breakups. He also rushed for 27 yards and caught a pair of passes on offense in his Virginia career. He led the ACC in interception return yards in 2019.
After graduation, he signed a free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers.
The native of Allentown, Pennsylvania earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Virginia in 2019 and a master’s in higher education administration from Virginia in 2021. At UNM, he is working on a master’s in athletic administration.
