Brett Arkelian joined the Lobo Football program in July of 2024, and he serves as a special teams analyst. He comes to New Mexico after spending the 2023 season with Fresno State.

This will be Arkelian’s first year working with Bronco Mendenhall.

With New Mexico, Arkelian will serve as the program’s first special teams analyst, and he will handle special teams scouting, video analysis and analytics.

He served in a similar position at Fresno State in 2023 working with all facets of the Bulldog special teams units.

Arkelian got his collegiate coaching career started at UT Martin before moving to Marshall, where he served as a special teams quality control coach for the 2020 season where the Thundering Herd finished fifth nationally in kickoff coverage.

He spent the spring season with Rice University as a graduate assistant for special teams and tight ends before moving to Virginia Tech, where he was a special teams G.A. and head of specialists recruiting for the 2021 season. WIth the Hokies, Virginia Tech was ranked No. 1 overall in the ACC, and seventh nationally by ESPN.

He spent 2022 with UC Davis as director of player personnel before his time with Fresno State.

The native of Clovis, California, Arkelian earned a bachelor’s in history from Lincoln University in 2016 where he served as a punter and placekicker, and a master’s in secondary education and teaching from UT Martin in 2018, where he finished his career as a punter. Arkelian has authored “The Kicker’s Bible”, a 200-page book of training methods and techniques gathered from over 20 NFL players and coaches, plus his own experiences.
