Connor Gilbert serves as the primary communications contact for the Lobos’ volleyball, baseball and track & field/cross country programs. He joined the communications staff in August of 2023.

He comes to UNM from Gonzaga, where he worked with those same three programs while serving as a sports information graduate assistant the prior two seasons with the Zags. During that period, Gilbert covered Gonzaga Baseball as it reached its highest national ranking in program history and managed media relations for Top-10 MLB Draft Pick Gabriel Hughes as well as covering Gonzaga Men’s Cross Country’s highest-ever team finish at NCAA Nationals in 2022. Gilbert also led Gonzaga Baseball Camps’ marketing efforts while coaching various camps in the summers.

During his time in Spokane, Gilbert also worked for the Spokesman-Review as an editor, designer and writer for three years, managing digital communications and page design while writing long-form features for sports and news. In 2021, The Spokesman’s sports section finished in the Top 10 nationally in four different categories of the Associated Press Sports Editors’ annual awards.

A 2020 graduate of Gonzaga, Gilbert was the sports editor of the Gonzaga Bulletin while majoring in English and Journalism, earning two SPJ awards for sports and news writing. He has also earned a pair of master’s degrees from Gonzaga, in Communication & Organizational Leadership and Sport & Athletic Administration.
