Assistant Coach

Drew Adams begins his third season as Assistant Coach for the New Mexico Lobos after spending 2011-12 as the Director of Basketball Operations. He came to UNM after one year at the University of Indiana, where he was both operations director and video coordinator. As an assistant coach, Adams handles all forms of on the court coaching in-game and at practices. He also has a major role in pregame scouting and setting up scouting reports.

Adams’ attention to detail in terms of scouting opponents, and his growing reputation as a recruiter have made him a valuable member of the Lobo program. When first coming to UNM, Adams handled many of the teams’ administrative duties on the road, including all facets of travel, and overseeing academics, working with UNM’s academic advising office. Adams also has an active role in UNM’s summer camps, and oversaw the office when coaches are out on the road recruiting.

Handling the logistics for a Division I basketball program, Adams was a key reason in UNM setting a school record with 14 wins away from home in 2011-12. Adams’ worked closely with the staff in making sure they had all the amenities on the road to allow the Lobos to maintain a high level of success. At Indiana, Adams spent one year as the Coordinator of Basketball Systems before being promoted to the position of Director of Operations/Video Coordinator. In that role Adams had oversight of all video operations as it pertains to practice and game coverage, opponent film exchange, and scouting.

Adams came to IU after serving two years as a student assistant at the University of Tennessee. During his time at UT, the Volunteers reached the NCAA Tournament twice and obtained the first number-one ranking in school history (2007-08). Prior to his time in Knoxville, Adams played one year at Iowa under Steve Alford and Craig Neal.

Adams spent two seasons (2004-2006) at Florida Community College of Jacksonville where he was team captain as a sophomore before transferring to Iowa. He also has coached on the AAU level for the Indiana Elite program. Adams is a 2004 graduate of Bloomington High School South, where he spent three years playing for head coach J.R. Holmes. During his senior season at South, the Panthers won Conference Indiana and he was selected as team captain, was the team’s leading scorer and was an all-conference selection. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Tennessee in 2009.
