Sammi Stevens isn’t shy about some of her goals for the 2013-14 season.  She wants her Lobo team to win a couple of tournaments and return to the throne at the Mountain West Championship. She also wants the Lobos to advance to NCAA play.Stevens also would like to notch her first collegiate win as a Lobo.  The season of 2013-14 is the senior’s last chance and it would surprise nobody if that individual title came to Stevens this season.  She has been one of the top Lobo players since her freshman year and last season advanced to NCAA play as an individual.  She had the No. 2 scoring average in the Mountain West as a junior and in her first outing of 2013-14 finished runner-up by a shot at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic hosted by Colorado State. Stevens lost that 54-hole tournament by a shot, but the Lobo shot the low round on the first 18 holes (69) and on the final 18 holes (68) to make a run at the individual title.  Stevens enters her senior season looking for her third consecutive All-Mountain West selection. In the spring season of 2013, Stevens was twice named the Mountain West Golfer of the Week.  Stevens was a 2013 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCAA) Academic All-American and has won Mountain West All-Academic and MW Scholar-Athlete awards.  Stevens is majoring in Political Science.SOPHOMORE (2011-12): 1st team all-Mountain West selection…76.23 scoring average, playing in 30 rounds/10 tournaments…a 75.08 scoring average in four fall tournaments and 77.00 in the spring…shot a season-low 70 on two occasions, in the 2nd round of the Windy City Collegiate at the Glen View Club in October that led to an 11th-place finish (5 over 221), and in the 2nd round of the PING/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Course in Tempe in late March…shot par 73 (2 birdies, 2 bogeys) in the final round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational to finish in 3rd place (1-under 218, 74-71-73)…she set UNM personal bests for best finish and lowest 54-hole total…her final swing of the 2nd round produced an eagle 2 on the par-4 4th (7 iron from 147 yards)…finished 10th at the MWC Championships in Litchfield Park, Ariz./Wigwam Resort Gold Course…UNM’s top finisher at the NCAA West Regional at Colorado National, tying for 45th at 9-over 225 (72-77-76).FRESHMAN (2010-11): Second on the team with a 76.32 scoring average playing in all 31 rounds…15th nationally in sand saves (46.3%) and 26th in fairways hits (86.0%)…UNM’s top finisher in four tournaments: Tied for 29th at the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire in Albuquerque at 7-over 226, shooting a 72 (1-under) in the final round on the UNM Championship Course; tied for 17th (10-over 226) at the Arizona Invitational (Vistoso GC) in Tucson; tied for 44th (15-over 231) at the Battle at Rancho Bernardo in San Diego; and tied for 9th at the MWC Championships in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
