Savanah Sanchez Repeats as MW Freshman of the Week

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Behind a brace against New Mexico State, Savanah Sanchez has earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week as announced by the conference on Monday.

The Albuquerque native led the Lobos with two goals, including the game-winning goal, in the win over the Aggies. Her first goal came at 20:52, going unmarked in the box and getting a foot on a floating ball from Allie Anderson, and sending the ball into the back of the net. She followed with her second goal at 34:09 off of a Fiona Jenkins corner kick, heading the ball into the top left corner and past the leaping Aggie goalkeeper for her first multi-goal match as a Lobo. Sanchez was 2-2 in shots on goals turning into goals, playing 64 minutes in the win.

Sanchez has seven points on the season on three goals and one assist, scoring three goals on eight shots on goal. Sunday’s game-winner was her second of the season, tying her for 30th in the NCAA, and tied for third in the Mountain West.

Following Monday’s award, the Lobos have won three Mountain West awards this season with Sanchez selected Freshman of the Week twice and Nicole Anderson Offensive Player of the Week to start the season.
