Lobo Men’s & Women’s Golf Return to NB3 Matchplay for 2025 Event
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –– The New Mexico men’s and women’s golf teams will again compete this October in the second annual NB3 Matchplay at Twin Warriors. The tournament, hosted by Notah Begay III and the Pueblo of Santa Ana, will be held Oct. 7-8 and consist of four men’s teams and four women’s teams competing in a nationally televised event on Golf Channel’s fall collegiate golf schedule. The scenic Twin Warriors Golf Club, located just north of Albuquerque, and the backdrop of the International Balloon Fiesta, will again showcase New Mexico to a national television audience.
The field for the 2025 edition of the event consists of the men’s and women’s teams from New Mexico and New Mexico State returning for the second year, playing newcomers Oregon and UNLV on the men’s side and Arizona and Texas A&M on the women’s side.
“The live national television broadcast on Golf Channel proved to be a huge success for our sponsorship partners,” said Begay. “Amidst the backdrop of the largest hot air balloon fiesta in the world, the best collegiate golfers in the country will compete for the crown. I’m so thankful to Santa Ana Pueblo for hosting this prestigious event as it has given us the chance to showcase the world-class Twin Warriors golf course as well as all of the resort amenities. The 2nd edition of this championship will prove to be another win for everyone in the State of New Mexico!”
Over the two days, the teams will compete in a round robin match play format in which each team plays the other three teams. A total of five points will be available in each match and the winners on both the men’s and women’s sides will be determined by total points won. There will be plenty of intense action in every match where a single point could make the difference.
Golf Channel will broadcast the event live on both days. Fans around the nation can watch from 5:30-8:30 pm ET (3:30-6:30 pm MT) on Oct. 7 and from 5:00-8:00 pm ET (3:00-6:00 pm MT) on Oct. 8.
“The University of New Mexico is honored to once again play in the NB3 Match Play at Twin Warrior Golf Club and showcase our amazing state and the people of the Pueblo of Santa Ana,” said UNM men’s head coach Jake Harrington. “We don’t get the opportunity to play match play very often during the season; so to be able to play in a tournament with our women’s program, compete against some of the best teams in the country, and to be televised on the Golf Channel is an incredible opportunity that we are excited to be a part of this event.”
“The NB3 match play will showcase some of the best Division I college golfers,” said UNM women’s head coach Jill Trujillo. “Notah’s vision has come to fruition with the support of Santa Ana Pueblo, Twin Warriors, the Golf Channel, and amazing sponsors. New Mexico is the Land of Enchantment and we can’t wait to show the world our beauty!”
At last year’s inaugural event, featuring the men’s and women’s teams from New Mexico, New Mexico State, Stanford and Texas, the Lobo men finished with a 1-1-1 record, while the Lobo women went 1-2-0.
Admission is free and there will be an autograph area for high school and junior golfers to meet some of the finest collegiate golfers in the country.
The NB3 Matchplay at Twin Warriors is proud to direct proceeds from the event toward the work being done on behalf of Native American youth by the Notah Begay III Foundation. Since 2005 the NB3 Foundation has provided unique programs that focus on improving the wellness and health of children from Native communities across the country.
