Grand Canyon Defeats UNM 4-0
PHOENIX, Ariz. — Grand Canyon swept three doubles matches and won three singles before UNM could get a point on the board for a 4-0 ‘Lopes win, dropping the Lobos to 6-6 on the season. GCU moved to 6-5 and the Lobos head north on I-17 to face Northern Arizona.
GCU took all three doubles matches, and in singles, the Phoenix tallied wins at No. 1, 3, and 4 for the win. The Lobos needed someone to stay alive as UNM was in all three of the remaining matches. Sofia Taborga took her first set at No. 6 singles 7-5 and had just started her second down 1-0 on serve. Maud Vandeputte dropped her first set but was up 5-0 in the second moving towards a third, and Maria Sodre was up 2-1 in her second set.
Rebekkah Gaines, Sarah O’Connor and Maria Matsoukatidi all suffered straight set losses.
