Lobos Fall in Opener to SMU
UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas — The season opener for New Mexico went the way of the SMU Mustangs as UNM fell 7-0 in University Park. The Mustangs, in their third weekend of the season, are now 6-2 while UNM is 0-1. The Lobos head to Arlington to face UT Arlington on Saturday at noon.
UNM didn’t take a set in the first match for the new-look Lobos. UNM dropped the doubles point 2-0 with the clinch coming just before No. 1 doubles team Aram Noroozian and Georgio Samaha could finish their match, which was at 5-3.
From there, SMU swept singles as UNM had a pair of new faces in the lineup and a new player at No. 1 singles in Aram Noroozian. He faced off with No. 48 Trevor Svajda, and lost 6-4, 6-0 in what officially clinched the match. Other wins for SMU to get to that point was at No. 5 by Georgi Georgiev over Dario Ciobotaru and at No. 6 as Noah McDonald defeated Nicolas Recoura.
The match was played out and the Mustangs took wins at Nos 2, 3, and 4 to sweep the match.
