Lobos Go 4-3 on Day Two of Colorado Cup

DENVER, Colo. — One day after gaining just one win, UNM took a sweep of doubles and took two singles matches to go 4-3 on day two of the Colorado Cup, hosted by the University of Denver.  The Lobos will have one more day of competition tomorrow.

In doubles, Rebekkah Gaines and Maria Sodre took out Weber State’s Sydney Schnell and Aleksandra Bozinovsky by a 6-2 score while Sofia Taborga and Maud Vandeputte won over Jessica Hill and Alicia Celorio Morales 6-2.

UNM nearly swept all five singles matches, dropping three three-set matches.  Wins were picked up by Maud Vandeputte, a 6-2, 6-2 over Schnell, and Taborga, a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Hill.  Vandeputte played a second match, falling to Eda Numanoglu of Tulsa 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-8).  Tulsa’s Erin McKenzie edged Gaines 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 7-5 while Sodre lost to Yingpangan Li of Weber State 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 6-4.
