Lobos Have Short Trip for ITAs Regionals in Las Cruces
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Lobo women’s tennis team has historically had a lot of success in Las Cruces against the New Mexico State Aggies. As the host site of the 2024 ITA Mountain Regional Championships, UNM is hoping that history holds up.
The Lobos will send six players to Las Cruces to take part in singles and doubles with Rebekkah Gaines, Maud Vandeputte, Sofia Taborga, Maria Sodre, Maria Matsoukatidi and Allison Romero taking part in both singles and doubles. Singles will have a draw of 64 with two qualifying rounds for some players, and doubles will have one qualifying round and a main draw of 32.
Romero was the Echo champion at the Bedford Cup in the Mountains to start the season, and she leads the way with four wins in the fall. Matsoukatidi, the only freshman, and Sodre are both mext with three wins. The two Maria’s each led with three doubles wins as well. The main draw matches will be played at NMSU, with consolation matches at Lions Park.
