Lobos Win Two Mountain West Weekly Awards

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Following two results on the week, two Lobos have earned their first Mountain West weekly awards on Monday.

Ashley Moody was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week and Callie Droitsch earned Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week.

Droitsch’s accolade came after recorded one shutout and allowed one goal between the two road matches. The redshirt-sophomore made 10 saves on the week, including tying her career high of six saves at Air Force.

She faced 35 shots on the week, 20 at Air Force and 15 at Colorado College with 11 shots on goal and 14 corner kicks, allowing only one goal for a .909 save percentage. Droitsch made her first save 40 seconds into the Air Force match. Droitsch thwarted another Falcon threat in the 11th minute as a player got free inside the right side of the box with the Lobo keeper using her body to block the shot. Air Force took four shots, three on goal in the first 11 minutes of action to force three Droitsch saves. The Lobo goalkeeper held the Falcons scoreless for the final 65:22 after Air Force took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.

Moody made two starts on the week, playing the full 180 minutes for the Lobo defense. The Lobo defense allowed only one goal. UNM’s first corner kick of the Air Force match came in the 49th minute, which resulted in Moody sending a ball from the far side of the field into the box, forcing the Falcon goalkeeper to knock the ball down with three Lobos crashing the box.

The two awards make three MW awards on the season, joining Presley Devey who won MW Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 26.
