Women's Tennis Heads to Air Force to Open Season
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Lobo women’s tennis team isn’t quite playing to defend it’s Mountain West title just yet, but it is getting its season started in the same place it clinched that Mountain West title. The Lobos are in Colorado Springs at the U.S. Air Force Academy for the Bedford Cup in the Mountains.
For New Mexico, head coach Vicky Maes will have most of the team available for the tournament, save newcomer Rebekkah Gaines.
The singles schedule will have Sarah O’Connor taking on Air Force’s Arianna Vanhouweling at 9:15 am and Maud Vandeputte drew No. 3 seed Violetta Borodina of Wyoming, also at 9:15 am. Maud’s twin sister Bente faces Ruby Young, also of Wyoming and also at 9:15 am.
A third matchup with Wyoming will see Maria Sodre face off with Cowgirl Eugenia Ceinos. Allison Romero faces Lillian Dwyer of Davidson College. Freshman Maria Matsoukatidi will take on Maya Michalski of Air Force and Sofia Taborga will take on Montana State’s Andrea Cuquerella.
