Men’s Golf Opens Season in Minnesota at Gopher Invitational
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s golf team begins its 2024-25 season this week with a trip to Minnesota for the Gopher Invitational. The tournament, hosted by Minnesota, will be held at Sunday-Monday at the Windsong Farm Golf Club in Maple Plain and will feature two rounds on Sunday and one round on Monday at the par-71, 7,586-yard course.
The Lobos will feature a lineup of Carson Herron, Mesa Falleur, Clark Sonnenberg, Wyatt Provence and Alvaro Portillo. Falleur and Provence, who both transferred to UNM this summer, and freshman Sonnenberg will all be making their Lobo debut in the event.
The 15-team field includes three teams that advanced to the 2024 NCAA Championship at La Costa, with Baylor and West Virginia joining the Lobos. Host Minnesota, Furman, Georgia Southern, Iowa, Iowa State, Kent State, Marquette, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Rutgers, St. Thomas and UNC Wilmington round out the field.
New Mexico returns to Minnesota for the tournament for the first time since 2018-19. The Lobos won the Gopher Invitational in 2013-14.
