LIHUE, Hawaii – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play Sunday at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational with the opening round at the Ocean Course at Hokuala. The Lobos shot 11-over during the opening 18 holes and are in 13th place after the opening day.

Arizona State is the first round leader at 8-under, followed by Sacramento State at 7-under and North Carolina at 6-under.

Myah McDonald, playing in her home state, was the low Lobo on Sunday, shooting a 1-under 71. Lauren Lehigh shot even par 72, while Lisa-Marie Pagliano shot a first round 77. Maria Caparros Levin shot 79 and Annie Saechueng shot 81 to round out the UNM lineup.

“We did not take care of business today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Making too many mistakes on a short course cost us.”

The Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational will continue play Monday and conclude play on Tuesday in Kauai.
