2024 Football Schedule Released
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The inaugural season for Lobo Football under Bronco Mendenhall was always slated to start on August 24 at home against Montana State. Now, we officially know how it will all play out as the Mountain West officially released the complete 2024 football schedule.
The Lobos will play a 12-game schedule with five at home and seven on the road, with three bye weeks. The three bye-weeks is an anomaly brought about by the 2024 calendar being such with 14 weekends this year between Labor Day weekend and Thanksgiving weekend, not the normal 13. Additionally, UNM plays at Hawai’i this season, allowing for the season to start on Week 0, which is August 24.
Lobo season ticket purchasers will get tickets for all five home games and a voucher to double up on any conference game, or the season opener against Montana State.
Overall, the schedule will see the Lobos play seven bowl teams from 2023 (Arizona, Auburn, Fresno State, New Mexico State, Air Force, Utah State, and Wyoming) along with one FCS Playoff team (Montana State). Four of the five home games at University Stadium will be against 2023 bowl or playoff teams.
After last year’s popular exclusive limited-edition season-ticket holder cap, UNM is again offering a limited-edition season ticket holder gift. The 2024 exclusive gift is a commemorative coin featuring a sleek cherry and silver design with turquoise accents that will make a tremendous showcase piece for Lobos fans.
The 2024 exclusive season-ticket holder gift will not be sold in The Lobo Den Store or available online at golobos.com/store. It can only be obtained as a part of your season ticket purchase or renewal by June 3.
Season ticket renewals and new season ticket accounts can be purchased now either in person at the Lobo Ticket Office in The Pit, online at www.golobos.com/tickets, or by calling 505-925-5626. Fans purchasing season tickets can save nearly 20% compared to single-game purchases. Fans now also have the option to utilize payment plans for their ticket purchases, and season tickets provide postseason priority.
The Lobos will open on August 24 against Montana State, the earliest home game in program history, and it will tie for the earliest game ever as UNM opened at N.C. State on August 24, 2002, in the BCA Bowl.
UNM will travel for the first of two Power 4 road games the following week as UNM will take on Arizona, coached by former San Jose State coach Brent Brennan in what will be the first game of the season for the Wildcats and their first as a member of the Big XII.
After a September 7 open week, UNM travels to SEC country to take on Auburn on September 14. UNM will return home to host Fresno State in UNM’s Mountain West opener on September 21 before driving down I-15 to take on New Mexico State on September 28 in Las Cruces.
October will start with a second open week on October 5 before starting a run of six straight games. After the open week, UNM will host Air Force on October 12. UNM will then play back-to-back road games, traveling to Utah State on October 19 and Colorado State on October 26.
November will start with hosting Wyoming on November 2. UNM’s first trip to Snapdragon Stadium will be on November 9 as the team plays at San Diego State. The Lobos will finish the home slate with a Senior Day matchup with Washington State. It will be the first time the Cougars and the Lobos have played in Albuquerque since September 20, 2004.
UNM’s final off week will be on November 23 and then the team will end the regular season with a Thanksgiving weekend trip to the Islands to take on Hawai’i in UNM’s first trip to the Ching Athletic Complex.

The Old Trapper Mountain West Football Championship game will be played on a date to be announced the weekend of December 6-7. The contest will feature the two teams with the highest Conference winning percentage.
With the announcement of the 2024 football schedule, Mountain West national television partners CBS Sports and FOX Sports will now initiate a selection procedure including the shifting of particular games to non-Saturday dates. That will be followed by the identification of network outlets and kick times.
