Lobos Downed in Four at Home by Fresno

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico Volleyball fell down 2-0 and its rally fell short despite a dominant third set and a late spurt in the closeout as the Lobos fell in four (23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 20-25) to Fresno State at the Johnson Center Thursday night.

The Lobos (17-9, 9-6 MW) outblocked the Bulldogs (16-10, 10-5 MW) nine to five and served up six aces, but couldn’t dig themselves out of the 2-0 hole as Fresno hit a match-high .386 in the final set to dash UNM’s hopes of a reverse sweep. Guereca added a team-high four blocks to lead four other Lobos with multiple – Elizabeth Woods added four of her own, and Biassou and Athina Dimitriadis came up with three each.

Walden finished with the most assists (40) of the season in a four-set match for UNM and the most she’s had in a match since Sep. 21, adding nine digs. Giselle Groe was the only Lobo to finish with double-digit digs after racking up a career-high 16.
