Lobos Open Play at UTEP
EL PASO, Texas — New Mexico took four of seven singles matches from New Mexico State on the opening day of the UTEP Invitational, held at the UTEP Miner Tennis Complex.
The Lobos got wins from Katherine Jhang beat Anna Pinaieva 6-4, 6-3 and from Hsuan Huang, who defeated Natsuki Nishimura 6-2, 7-6. UNM also got a win from Bente Vandeputte, winning in dominating fashing 6-0, 6-3 over Dora Kurdi and from Sofia Taborga, who likewise won 6-3, 6-1 over Varvara Niolaeva.
Of UNM’s three singles losses, two were in three sets and one was a 7-5, 6-4 loss. In doubles, UNM mixed its teams up, but still got a win from Bente Bandeputte and Maria Sodre, who won 6-4 over Kurdi and Whitney Moon.
Action continues at UTEP tomorrow morning at 9 am.
