English Wins 3-Meter on Day One in Ft. Collins
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Alice English, a freshman from Saline, Michigan won the 3-meter dive in the first event of her collegiate career to pace New Mexico on the opening day of the two-day double dual with Colorado State and Air Force, hosted at Edora Pool Ice Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. Day two, the final of the meet, will take place with the final 11 events starting at 11 a.m. Day two will not be streamed.
Overall, UNM trails Colorado State 161-44 and Air Force 159-46. CSU leads Air Force 129-76.
English took the title in the 3-meter dive as UNM finished first and third in the event for its best showing out of the 11 events competed. English scored a 250.30 over her six dives, giving her an 8.15-point win over second place Maggie DiScipio of Colorado State. DiScipio’s score barely edged UNM’s Kristen Hepfer as the veteran diver scored a 241.15 to clear third place. Abigail Bouravnev was seventh in the event.
UNM’s best event in the pool was in the 1,000-yard free, where Maya Clise took third place with a 10:42.57, holding off Air Force’s Naomi Furman. Clise was also UNM’s top finisher in the 400-yard individual medley, coming in seventh. UNM’s second-best finish on the day was by Katy McCarter as she finished sixth in the 50-yard free.
