Robinson Scores in First Career Start as Lobos Earn Draw with Texas Tech

by Allison Weiss

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Behind stellar play in net by redshirt-sophomore Alli Davis and a late goal by junior Ellie Robinson in the 87th minute, the Lobos fought to a 1-1 draw in the season opener against Texas Tech on Thursday night.

Davis tied her career high with eight saves (four in each half) as the Lobo defense held off the Texas Tech attack that included consecutive shots and saves in the 21st minute and another shot and save a minute later to keep the match scoreless.

It wasn’t until the 77th minute that either team broke through, with Texas Tech getting on the board to break not only the tie but the Lobos’ streak of 679 minutes without conceding a goal dating back to last season and a 674:58 personal shutout streak for Davis.

Entering as a sub in the 82nd minute, Robinson and the Lobos turned a Red Raider offside into an opportunity. Standing on the Lobo half just inside the center circle, Davis put the ball back in play, kicking it the length of the field towards Paige Satterlee, who tracked it down in the right corner outside of the 18-yard box. Satterlee crossed it into the box with Paris Dalton getting her head on it to deflect it to Robinson, who promptly buried it into the back of the net for the first Lobo goal of the season and the second career goal for the junior. It was the only shot taken by Robinson in the match and the only shot on goal by the Lobos.
