UNM Drops Second Game to Fresno State

by Allison Weiss

FRESNO, Calif.— The Lobos had a runner on third in both the fifth and sixth innings of Saturday’s game at Fresno State but were unable to find the needed hit in the 1-0 defeat to the Bulldogs.

The deciding run came in the bottom of the fourth on a leadoff double and single to right that fell just out of reach of Maddie Boldt, but the Lobos were in position to tie the game in their next at-bat after Boldt hit a one-out double in the top of the fifth, advancing to third on the next at-bat on a wild pitch. However, a ground ball to first and a foul out to left ended the scoring opportunity.

In the top of the sixth, Ashley Archuleta led off with a single up the middle, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Rachael Hathoot, and after Keyannah Chavez reached on a hit-by-pitch, both runners moved into scoring position on a foul out to right field. With a chance to tie or take the lead, both were left stranded after a fly ball to right ended the inning.  In total, the Lobos left six runners on base, with a runner left on in five innings.

UNM tallied four hits in the game with Archuleta accounting for half of the hits for her sixth multi-hit game of the season, and in the circle, Taylor Snow pitched a complete game, her second of the season. Snow allowed one run on five hits, striking out two.

The Lobos conclude the series with the Bulldogs on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT/ 12 p.m. MT.
