Lobos in Seventh After Round One of Mountain View Collegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play on Friday at the Mountain View Collegiate with the first round at Mountain View Golf Club. The Lobos shot 1-under during the opening round to end the day tied for seventh place.

TCU holds the first round lead at 12-under, three shots ahead of San Jose State and Ohio State at 9-under. Iowa State is fourth at 8-under, Tulsa is fifth at 3-under, UNLV is sixth at 2-under, while New Mexico is tied with Arkansas for seventh at 1-under.

Maria Caparros Levin led UNM during the opening round, shooting a bogey-free 2-under 70 to sit T-9th on the individual leaderboard. Lauren Lehigh was also in red numbers, shooting a 1-under 71. Jenny Lertsadwattana shot even par 72 and Lisa-Marie Pagliano shot an opening round 74. Annie Saechueng rounded out the lineup with an 81.

“The wind picked up on our back nine and we didn’t make as many birdies,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “They hung tough and Maria had a birdie free round.”

The Mountain View Collegiate will continue Saturday and conclude Sunday at Mountain View Golf Club.
