by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s basketball team returns to postseason play for the first time in nine years as it plays in the 2023 National Invitation Tournament. The Lobos are a No. 2 seed and will host Utah Valley in an opening round matchup at The Pit on Wednesday night. Game time is 8 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Season ticket holders had their seats for the game added to their account. Those fans should log into their account and click renew to purchase their tickets to the game by 10 a.m. on Wednesday. All other fans can purchase single-game tickets for Wednesday’s game at GoLobos.com/tickets. Ticket prices are $15 for all bench seating and $25 for chairbacks.

The Lobos enter the NIT with a 22-11 record, posting their most wins since the 2013-14 season. New Mexico is led by three All-Mountain West players in Jamal Mashburn, Jr., Jaelen House and Morris Udeze.

Utah Valley has a 25-8 record and earned an automatic bid to the NIT as the regular season champion of the WAC. The Wolverines are led by three All-WAC players in Aziz Bandaogo, Le’Tre Darthard and Trey Woodbury.

New Mexico is making its 20th all-time NIT appearance, its first since 2011 when it downed UTEP in the first round at The Pit before losing in the second round at Alabama. The Lobos were the NIT runner-up in 1964, reached the semifinals in 1990 and reached the quarterfinals six other times, most recently in 2001.

The New Mexico-Utah Valley winner will play the Colorado-Seton Hall winner in the second round, either March 18 or 19. Date, time and location of that game will be announced after the matchup is determined. If the Lobos advance and host the second-round game at The Pit, ticket information for that game will be announced at that time.
