Lobos Visit Utah State in Search of 20th Win of the Season

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team will begin the second half of its Mountain West schedule on Wednesday night when it visits Utah State. Game time in Logan is 8:30 p.m. and the game will air on FS1 and the Lobo Radio Network.

New Mexico and Utah State are tied for third place in the Mountain West at 6-3, along with Nevada. San Diego State leads the league at 8-1 and Boise State is second at 7-2 at the midway point of conference play.

The Lobos (19-3, 6-3 MW) are looking to reach the 20-win milestone for the 28th time in program history and the first time since 2013-14. New Mexico is coming off an 81-73 victory over Air Force on Friday night at The Pit. Jamal Mashburn, Jr., the Mountain West’s leading scorer, had 24 points to lead UNM, his sixth consecutive 20-point game.

Utah State (17-5, 6-3 MW) is coming off a 70-53 victory at Fresno State on Saturday night. The Aggies lead the nation in 3-point shooting at 41.8% this season. USU is led by Steven Ashworth, who averages 15.3 ppg and has made a league-best 74 3-pointers this season.

Utah State leads the all-time series 31-12, including a 16-2 mark in Logan. The Aggies have won the last five meetings overall, including both games last season. The Lobos’ last win in Logan came in 2014-15 as USU has won five straight at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

New Mexico will return home on Feb. 7 when it hosts Nevada. Game time at The Pit is 8:30 p.m. and the game will air on FS1. Tickets for that game are on sale at GoLobos.com/tickets.
