by Allison Weiss

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The New Mexico softball team added another piece to the 2023 class as head coach Nicole Dickson and staff have signed a left-handed pitcher in Brooke Umali.

From Burlingame, California, Umali becomes the 11th member and the third pitcher of the signing class.

A four-year player on the varsity team at Aragon High School, Umali had her best season in the circle as a junior, throwing 77.2 innings and striking out 101 batters to just 15 walks and carried a 1.17 ERA.  During her high school career thus far, she has thrown 145.2 innings in 36 appearances with 172 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.26. Her team won consecutive PAL championships in 2020-21 and 2021-22 and individually, she was named to the First Team All-American League in 2022.

Intending to major in architecture at UNM, Umali commented that she chose to be a Lobo because, “I’d never had a real dream school until I came to UNM.”

As aforementioned, Umali is the latest Lobo in a talented 2023 class that signed back on Nov. 9.
