UNM Faces Boise State on Senior Day Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobo volleyball team knows that their season won’t end on Saturday, and can only secure their seeding against Boise State when the two teams face off at 1 p.m. at the Johnson Center.

UNM earned its spot in the Mountain West Championships next week with a four-set win over Utah State on Thursday night, completing the season sweep of the Aggies for the first time since 2017.

The Lobos enter the match fifth in the conference standings at 8-9 in the MW and 17-10 overall and have won their last three matches. Boise State on the other hand enters the match having lost to Air Force in three on Thursday and have lost its last eight matches. The Broncos are 6-11 in conference, 14-14 on the season, 3-8 on the road, 4-4 in three sets, 9-7 in four sets and 1-3 in five sets.

When it comes to conference stats, the Lobos lead the conference in digs per set (16.27), are second in opponent hitting percentage (.189) and third in blocks per set (2.41) in conference matches. Avital Jaloba leads the conference in blocks per set (1.39) and has a conference-best 92 total blocks, Alena Moldan is second in digs per set (4.12) and digs (272) and Kaitlynn Biassou is third in kills per set (3.76) but has the second most kills at 248 and second in points per set (4.33) and points (285.5).

UNM will recognize three seniors in Jaloba, Anilee Sher and Moldan, prior to the match for Senior Day, and all tickets will be $2. Tickets can be purchased at golobos.com/tickets.

The MW tournament will start on Wednesday, Nov. 23 with the Lobos either playing at 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. MT depending on the final seeding. San Diego State and Nevada are both 7-10 in the conference with both matches starting after UNM’s match.
