by Steve Kirkland

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The New Mexico women’s golf team opened play Sunday at the Jim West Challenge with the first two rounds of play at Kissing Tree Golf Club. The Lobos shot 17-over during the first 36 holes of the event to sit in 11th place.

Oklahoma State is the 36-hole leader at 9-under, while SMU is the only other team in red figures at 2-under. Tulsa is in third at even par.

“It was a very blustery day and we did not handle the wind well,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “We had some very silly bogeys and others that inflated our score. We will have to take it low tomorrow to move up and have a decent tournament.”

Maria Caparros Levin is the top Lobo on the individual leaderboard, T-15th at even par after an opening round 71 and a second round 73. Jenny Lertsadwattana is at 2-over after a pair of 73s on Sunday. Myah McDonald is at 6-over, Lauren Lehigh is at 9-over and Annie Saechueng is at 13-over through the opening two rounds.

The final round of the Jim West Challenge will be Monday at Kissing Tree Golf Club. Coverage of the final round will be available on ESPN+.
