Hoppe/Jhang and Huang all Move to Women’s ITA Regionals in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Leonie Hoppe and Katherine Jhang won twice to advance to the ITA Women’s Mountain Regional Semifinals in the main draw and Hsuan Huang won her Flight B quarterfinal to also advance to the semis as UNM had another solid day in Las Vegas.Mountain Regionals, hosted by UNLV.  After winning two matches to get to the Round of 16, including a win over the No. 4 seeds, the pair opened Friday with an 8-3 win over Cindy Hu and Coco Zhao, moving them into the quarterfinals.

In the quarters, the duo faced their second seeded opponents of the tournament in the No. 6 seeded team from Denver, Britt Purcell and Taylor Melville.  Hoppe and Jhang raced past them 8-4 to move into the semis.

The Lobo duo are the only unseeded team left in the field, and they will take on seeded team for the third time in the 13-seed from Colorado, Elys Ventura and Mila Stenojevic.  On the other side of the bracket in the semifinals are the No. 7 seeded BYU pairing of Yujia Huang and Emilee Astle against the No. 3 seeded Utah pairing of Anastasia Goncharova and Madison Tattini.

In the Flight B quarterfinals, Hsuan Huang took a 6-2, 7-6 win over Indya Nespor of Utah State, and she will face Colorado State’s Viktoria Zhadzinskaya.  Awaiting in the final would be either Idaho State’s Sol O Lideadha or BYU’s Yijia Jiao.
