ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico women’s golf team completed its season-opening event on Tuesday with the final round of play of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, presented by Margaret Moses Branch. The Lobos shot 2-under during the final 18 holes at the UNM Championship Course, tied for the lowest round of the day, to move up to a tie for third at 2-over.

Ohio State won the title with a score of 11-under, ahead of SMU at 1-under and the Lobos and Kent State tying for third at 2-over. Kent State’s Mayka Hoogeboom was the individual medalist at 8-under, posting a one-shot victory over UNM’s Jenny Lertsadwattana.

“I saw a lot of really good things this week,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “The only thing that brought us down in this tournament was our three-putts. I can’t stress enough to this team that two putts or less is all important. That could have won Jenny the tournament, but second place is a great finish for her. For the team to be tied for third, against this field, it is a really good start to the season.”

Jenny Lertsadwattana earned runner-up honors at 7-under after a final round 67, matching her collegiate low round. Myah McDonald also shot in red numbers on Tuesday, posting a 2-under 70 to finish at 3-over. Lauren Lehigh finished at 2-over after a final round 73, while Lisa-Marie Pagliano shot 76 and Maria Caparros Levin shot 79 to round out the lineup.

Three Lobos played the tournament as an individual, with Annie Saechueng shooting a final round 71, her first collegiate round under par, to finish T-17th at 2-over. Chloe Lauer shot 77 in the final round and Sohia Zamarripa shot 80.

The Lobos return to action Oct. 7-9 with the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Colorado.
