Lobo Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award with Honor Roll Distinction

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— For the third-straight year and after setting the program record in team GPA this season, The University of New Mexico volleyball program has earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.

In addition, the Lobos have also earned the additional Honor Roll distinction, representing the top 20 percent of team GPAs in the division. UNM was one of 43 schools and the only Mountain West school to receive the distinction.

Initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, the AVCA award honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

As a team, the Lobos finished with a program-record 3.81 and 3.48 GPA in each of the semesters.

This is the seventh time in the last eight years that the Lobos have received the team academic award and the third under head coach Jon Newman-Gonchar.
